ASPE Conference 2018 By the Numbers

ASPE Conference 2018 By the Numbers
By: Todd Lash, Publications Committee Chair

The annual ASPE Conference, “Power of the Past, Force of the Future,” will be held in Kansas City, MO, from Saturday, June 16 – Wednesday, June 20. Each year we like to summarize some numbers to demonstrate the diversity in program offerings.

This year’s conference will feature more than 150 total hours of scheduled content:

  • 22.5 hours of Immersion Courses options
  • 7.5 hours of SP Day Workshop options
  • 28 hours of Pre-Conference Workshop options
  • 4 hours of Plenary options
  • Other hours of content (grouped by type):
    • 26 1-hour Workshops
    • 45 20-minute Snapshots
    • 44 1-hour Presentation Discussions
    • 4 Oral Research Presentations
    • 7 1-hour Training Technique sessions

Alternately, approximate hours of content (grouped by theme):

  • Administration: 16.5 hours
  • Advancing your SPs: 29.5 hours
  • Curriculum/Case Development: 10 hours
  • Foundations: 18.5 hours
  • Grants and Research: 11 hours
  • GTAs/MUTAs: 7.5 hours
  • Hybrid Simulation: 4.5 hours
  • Interprofessional Education: 6 hours
  • SP Educator Development: 23.5
  • Technology: 2 hours

And we have 28 posters to view and hear about during the poster crawl!

It’s not all work during the conference. We also have scheduled activities such as receptions, orientations, meals and snacks, and stretch breaks to allow plenty of time for networking and digesting what you have learned. And that’s not counting after-hours activities that are not on the schedule!

With over 400 registrants expected at the conference, along with the abundance of program content, attendees should have little difficulty advancing their professional knowledge and skills (ASPE SOBP Domain 5: Professional Development).
